# David Bozell **David Bozell** has been **president of the [[Media Research Center]]** since **May 27, 2025**. He succeeded his father, [[L. Brent Bozell III]], who had founded the MRC in 1987 and left it after 38 years to become Trump's ambassador to South Africa. Before that David ran **[[ForAmerica]]**, the social-media advocacy group his father founded in 2010, and was the MRC's vice president for growth and development. He also sits on the Conservative Action Project's coordinating committee. He is the operating manager of the [[Bozell Family]]'s media business in its fourth political generation. ## The inheritance The MRC is the right's longest-running "media bias" operation. It started with monitoring and complaints about the press and grew into a content business: [[NewsBusters]] for bias-hunting, [[CNSNews]] for news, and a donor base built on the premise that mainstream journalism is the enemy. David took over as that premise became federal policy: - **The father's route to the embassy.** Trump first named Brent Bozell in January 2025 to lead the U.S. Agency for Global Media, the parent of Voice of America. When Trump moved to dismantle that agency in March, the nomination was switched to South Africa. The Senate confirmed him on **Dec. 18, 2025**. At his hearing he would not say whether he believed the administration's claim of a "genocide" against white South Africans. - **The brother.** [[L. Brent Bozell IV]] was convicted in 2023 of felonies for his role in the [[January 6 Capitol Attack]] and sentenced to 45 months. He was pardoned in January 2025 ([[J6 Mass Pardons]]). So in the second Trump term the family holds an ambassadorship, the MRC presidency and a pardon. ## At the MRC On taking over, David said the MRC would "meet the moment with the same fearless commitment to truth." He moved over from ForAmerica, which campaigns through social media, not newsroom monitoring. The handoff comes as the right's media fight moves from complaining about coverage to using state power over broadcasters and platforms (see [[Jimmy Kimmel]] and [[ABC and Disney v. FCC]]).
