# David Bohm American-born theoretical physicist who in 1952 constructed the first complete hidden-variable formulation of [[Quantum Mechanics]] — see Pilot-Wave Theory — producing a working counterexample to an impossibility proof by [[John von Neumann]] that the field had accepted for twenty years. Bohm was called before the [[House Un-American Activities Committee]] in 1949, invoked the Fifth Amendment, was arrested for contempt of Congress, and was acquitted; Princeton declined to renew his contract regardless and he spent the rest of his career abroad. His later work on dialogue and on wholeness in physics attracted an audience outside the sciences, some of which has been enlisted by [[Quantum Mysticism]] — an odd fate for the author of the least mystical interpretation on offer.
