# Daniel Nigro Born December 15, 1979 in Suffern, New York. American record producer, songwriter, and former indie-rock musician who has become **one of the most consequential pop producers of the 2020s** through his sustained collaborations with **[[Chappell Roan]]** and **Olivia Rodrigo**. ## Pre-Production Career Nigro was the frontman of the indie-rock band **As Tall As Lions** from 2002 until the band's 2010 dissolution. He transitioned to full-time songwriting and production work in the early 2010s, writing and producing for a range of pop artists including Conan Gray and Sky Ferreira before his breakout collaborations. ## The Olivia Rodrigo Partnership Nigro co-wrote and produced Olivia Rodrigo's 2021 debut album *Sour* — including the #1 single "drivers license," which broke first-day streaming records on Spotify when it was released in January 2021. He also produced her 2023 follow-up *GUTS*. The Rodrigo collaboration made Nigro one of the most-sought pop producers in the industry by 2022. ## The Chappell Roan Partnership Nigro co-wrote and produced [[Pink Pony Club]] for Chappell Roan in 2020 — the song that, despite its initial commercial failure, would eventually become her signature track and a 2025 UK #1 single. After Atlantic Records dropped Roan in 2020, Nigro continued working with her independently, producing her 2023 debut album ***The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess*** in its entirety. The album is now one of the defining queer-pop releases of the 2020s. The Roan and Rodrigo projects — both produced by Nigro, both featuring young female artists with vivid first-person songwriting voices and a deliberate revival of 1980s/90s pop production aesthetics — have made his production style one of the most-discussed pop sound signatures of the decade. ## Place in the Vault Nigro's significance to this vault is as the **producer-and-co-writer collaborator** behind the Chappell Roan project and specifically [[Pink Pony Club]]. He is included for cross-referential completeness rather than as an independent political figure. --- ## See Also - [[Chappell Roan]] - [[Pink Pony Club]]
