# Charles Borges **Charles Borges** was chief data officer of the [[SSA]] (Social Security Administration) from January 27, 2025. On August 26, 2025, he filed a whistleblower disclosure with the Office of Special Counsel and congressional committees. It alleged that [[DOGE]] staff at the agency had made a "live copy" of the country's Social Security records, covering more than 300 million Americans, in a cloud environment without independent security oversight, and that DOGE personnel had worked around a court order restricting their access. Days later he resigned, citing "a hostile work environment" and conditions he called intolerable after he raised his concerns. He described being excluded and isolated, and said his requests for information about projects that could break the law were "rebuffed or ignored." The agency said it does not comment on personnel matters and said the data was stored in a secure environment walled off from the internet. In January 2026 the Justice Department acknowledged in court filings that DOGE members had accessed and shared sensitive Social Security data without agency officials' knowledge. He is represented by the [[Government Accountability Project]]. > [!note] Stub > This is a short entry that hasn't been fully written yet. ## See also - [[Federal Whistleblower Roster]] - [[DOGE]] · [[SSA]] - [[Criminalizing Whistleblowers]]
