# Chanel Rion White House chief correspondent for [[One America News Network]], and the network's most prominent and recognizable on-air personality. Rion's reporting style is explicitly advocacy journalism on behalf of the Trump administration and Republican politics — she makes little pretense of neutrality and has used her White House press credentials to serve as a reliable amplifier of Trump's messaging and grievances against mainstream media. ## White House Access and Press Conferences During Trump's first term, Rion received White House press credentials despite OAN's extreme pro-Trump positioning. Trump himself called on her favorably at press conferences, and she used these opportunities to ask questions that were more friendly prompts than accountability journalism. Her White House access was temporarily challenged by the White House Correspondents' Association over concerns about OAN's journalistic standards, but OAN maintained coverage. ## Reporting Style and Controversies Rion has covered multiple major political stories in a manner explicitly favorable to Trump: - Election integrity and fraud allegations (2020) - COVID-19 origins (Wuhan lab leak advocacy) - Biden family investigations She traveled to Ukraine to report on the Biden-Ukraine allegations that were central to Trump's first impeachment — reporting that aligned with and amplified the Trump legal team's narrative. ## Background Rion is the daughter of Thomas Rion, an artist, and has a background in art and illustration as well as journalism. She is married to Courtney Rion, a Republican political operative, making her household a node at the intersection of MAGA media and Republican political operations. ## Role in the Ecosystem Rion exemplifies the OAN model of advocacy journalism — using the structural form of news reporting (press credentials, White House briefings, on-location reporting) while serving primarily as a communications vehicle for Trump's political project. Her prominence at OAN makes her a key face of the far-right cable news ecosystem that exists to the right of [[Fox News]].
