# Bob Casey
**Bob Casey** is a former Democratic U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania, who held the seat from 3 January 2007 to 3 January 2025 across three terms. The son of a Pennsylvania governor of the same name, he previously served as the state's auditor general and treasurer. He lost his 2024 re-election bid to [[Dave McCormick]] by a margin inside one-half of one percent.
He conceded on 21 November 2024, and his campaign asked the Department of State to halt the statewide automatic recount then under way; the Department told all 67 counties the next day that they were not required to finish it. The statutory provision allowing a defeated candidate to waive that recount — 25 P.S. § 3154(h) — had expired at noon on 13 November, and the Department cited no provision in its place.
