# Bill Hill
**Bill Hill** is an independent candidate for Alaska's at-large U.S. House seat in 2026 and the main challenger to Republican [[Nick Begich III]]. A commercial fisherman and retired educator who had never run statewide before, he finished second in the August 18 primary with about a third of the vote, and the Alaska Democratic Party has backed him since July.
His campaign has run against Begich's votes for the war with Iran, the [[Big Beautiful Bill]] and the administration's tariffs, and on health-care and fuel costs. It also says the Democratic name on the same ballot, [[Eric Hafner]], is a spoiler meant to help Begich — a claim Begich denies.
