# Barry Loudermilk
Republican U.S. Representative for Georgia's 11th district, in Atlanta's northwest suburbs, since 2015. He is the House GOP's lead investigator of the investigators: since 2023 he has run the Republican re-examination of January 6 and of the [[House Select Committee on the January 6th Attack]].
## The counter-investigation
- **118th Congress (2023–2024)** — As chair of the House Administration Committee's oversight subcommittee, he reviewed the select committee's work. His December 2024 report urged that [[Liz Cheney]] be investigated for witness tampering over her contacts with [[Cassidy Hutchinson]].
- **2025-09-03** — House Republicans created a select subcommittee of the Judiciary Committee to "reinvestigate" January 6 (H.Res. 605), with Loudermilk as chair. The resolution was added to a procedural rule rather than voted on separately. Its formal name is the Select Subcommittee to Investigate the Remaining Questions Surrounding January 6, 2021. In September 2025 Speaker [[Mike Johnson]] named Republicans Morgan Griffith, Clay Higgins, [[Troy Nehls]] and [[Harriet Hageman]]. Democrats [[Eric Swalwell]] (ranking), [[Jasmine Crockett]] and [[Jared Moskowitz]] were named by Jeffries; one Democratic seat was vacant as of October 2026.
- **2026-01** — First hearing, on the unsolved DNC and RNC pipe bombs. NPR's fact-check found Loudermilk's National Guard timeline jumbled and a colleague's FBI-informant claims false or misleading.
- **2026-03 (reported March 6)** — Refers [[Cassidy Hutchinson]] to DOJ for lying to Congress, co-signed by Judiciary Chair [[Jim Jordan]] (CNN). The referral targets her testimony that Trump knew of the potential for violence and pressed ahead.
- **2026-10** — DOJ presents the Hutchinson case to a D.C. grand jury. See [[Cassidy Hutchinson News Log]].
