# Anthony Scaramucci
**Anthony Scaramucci** (born January 6, 1964) is a hedge-fund founder who served eleven days as Trump's White House Communications Director in July 2017 and became one of the best-known Trump-world defectors.
## The eleven days
A Goldman Sachs alumnus (1989–96) who founded SkyBridge Capital in 2005, Scaramucci was named director of the Office of Public Liaison in January 2017, then chief strategy officer at the Export-Import Bank. On July 21, 2017 he was named Communications Director; [[Sean Spicer]] resigned the same day after objecting to the hire. On July 26 he gave an on-record phone call to *New Yorker* reporter Ryan Lizza that became the defining episode of his tenure. He was dismissed on July 31 on the recommendation of incoming chief of staff [[John Kelly]] — tied for the shortest tenure in the job.
## The turn
In August 2019 Scaramucci broke with Trump, saying he had "lost his mind." He co-founded the anti-Trump Right Side PAC in June 2020 and endorsed Biden, then endorsed [[Kamala Harris]] in 2024. Since April 2024 he has co-hosted *The Rest Is Politics: US* with Katty Kay.
SkyBridge's assets fell from roughly $9 billion to about $2 billion by March 2023; Scaramucci has called discovering that [[Sam Bankman-Fried]] was a "fraud" the worst day of his career.
**Current status (2026):** anti-Trump commentator, podcaster and regular *Fortune* columnist; a May 2026 Bloomberg Law piece carried his claim that Wall Street friends regret their Trump votes.
## RWKB angle
Scaramucci is a case study in the Trump orbit's churn and in the defector-as-media-brand model, with a side door into the crypto collapse via [[FTX]].
