# Anthony D'Esposito
**Anthony D'Esposito** is a former NYPD officer and one-term Republican U.S. Representative from New York (NY-04, 2023–2025) who lost re-election to [[Laura Gillen]] in 2024, then was confirmed as U.S. Department of Labor Inspector General in December 2025. He is widely viewed as the GOP's presumptive 2026 challenger for a third Gillen–D'Esposito matchup, but as of mid-June 2026 had not formally entered: the Hatch Act bars an IG from running while in office, and ethics groups have demanded an investigation over his reported plans. He carries baggage from a 2024 report that he placed an alleged mistress on his district-office payroll.
