# Andres Serrano American photographer (b. 1950), Catholic, known for large-format work involving bodily fluids and religious iconography. His 1987 *Piss Christ* — which he described as a comment on the cheapening of religious imagery, not an attack on faith — detonated the [[Piss Christ Controversy]] and with it the [[NEA Culture Wars]].
