# Andrei Troshev **Andrei Troshev**, call sign "Sedoi" ("the grey-haired"), is a retired Russian colonel and veteran of Afghanistan and the Second Chechen War who served as a senior [[Wagner Group]] commander, including in [[Syria]], and is a Hero of the Russian Federation. After the [[Wagner Group Mutiny]], [[Vladimir Putin]] said he had wanted Troshev to lead Wagner in place of [[Yevgeny Prigozhin]]. On September 28–29, 2023 — a month after Prigozhin's death — Putin and Deputy Defence Minister [[Yunus-Bek Yevkurov]] met him in the Kremlin to discuss forming "volunteer units" for the war in Ukraine, telling him: "You yourself fought in such a unit for more than a year." The EU (December 2021) and UK (June 2022) have sanctioned him. His role since 2024 is not documented in open sources. ## See Also - [[Wagner Group]] · [[Wagner Group Mutiny]] · [[Dmitry Utkin]] · [[Battle of Khasham]]
