# Ana Reyes
U.S. District Judge for the District of Columbia. Nominated by President Biden on **19 May 2022** and confirmed **15 February 2023** by a Senate vote of **51–47**, she is the **first Latina and first openly LGBTQ judge** to serve on that court. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1974, she spent 22 years in complex litigation and international arbitration at Williams & Connolly before taking the bench.
Like the other judges of the D.C. district court, she draws a disproportionate share of litigation against the executive branch, because that is where suits against federal agencies are filed.
## East Potomac
Reyes presides over the challenge to the [[East Potomac Golf Links Redesign]]. In **May 2026** she cautioned the government against removing more than **ten trees** from the property without raising it with the court first. At a hearing on **2 July 2026** she declined to block the project, but did so after government lawyers assured her that no construction would proceed before the required federal approval process was complete. She indicated she would not interfere with routine maintenance.
By late August, more than sixty trees had been removed and the administration was characterizing the removals as maintenance — the posture described on that page.
