**Ami Bera** is a Democratic congressman from the Sacramento area and a physician trained at UC Irvine. He has served in the House since 2013, first for California's 7th District and since 2023 for the 6th, and sits on the [[House Foreign Affairs Committee]].
After [[Proposition 50 (California)]] redrew the state's House map in 2025, Bera chose to run in the new 3rd District, which runs from part of the city of Sacramento into Placer, El Dorado and Nevada counties. Rep. [[Kevin Kiley]], who won the old 3rd as a Republican and left the party in 2026, ran in the 6th instead (see [[CA-06-2026]]). In the June 2, 2026 top-two primary Bera finished first with 34.3 percent of the certified vote; Republican Robb Tucker, a Nevada County supervisor, was second with 29.9 percent. The Cook Political Report, Sabato's Crystal Ball and Inside Elections all rate the November race safely Democratic.
