# Alan Cranston Democratic U.S. Senator from California (1969–1993) and Senate Majority Whip, the fourth-ranking position in Senate Democratic leadership. Cranston was the most heavily implicated of the five senators in the [[Keating Five Scandal]]: [[Charles Keating]] and his associates raised roughly $850,000 for voter-registration organizations affiliated with Cranston, and the [[Senate Select Committee on Ethics]] found that Cranston's fundraising and his interventions with regulators were "substantially linked." In November 1991 the committee formally reprimanded Cranston — the only one of the five to receive a sanction — for conduct that "violated established norms of behavior in the Senate." Already suffering from prostate cancer, he did not seek re-election in 1992. He later chaired anti–nuclear proliferation efforts and died in 2000. > [!note] Stub > Minimum-viable page created to resolve wikilinks from the [[Keating Five Scandal]] build.
