# A. Steven Crown
**A. Steven "Steve" Crown** is a son of [[Lester Crown]] and executive chairman of the business board of [[Henry Crown and Company]] (HCC), the [[Crown Family]] investment firm in Chicago. He took the role in January 2025, in the leadership reset that followed the death of his brother [[James Crown]] in June 2023. The KB tracks him as the senior family figure at the firm that holds the dynasty's long-standing [[General Dynamics]] stake. The shared family story lives on [[Crown Family]].
## Family position
He is one of the seven children of [[Lester Crown]] and Renée Schine Crown, and a grandson of [[Henry Crown]], who built the family fortune. His siblings include [[James Crown]] (1953–2023) and [[Susan Crown]]. Lester, born in 1925, is the family patriarch.
## Role at Henry Crown and Company
| Period | Role |
|---|---|
| Before 2025 | Co-president of HCC, helping lead the firm alongside [[James Crown]] |
| January 2025 | Executive chairman of the business board |
The January 23, 2025 announcement split leadership between two family members. Steve became executive chairman. His cousin [[William Crown]] became president and CEO, with executive responsibility for HCC's operations. James had been HCC's chairman and CEO; the 2025 structure split that top job in two.
## Boards and philanthropy
From HCC's January 2025 biography:
- Director, [[Aspen Skiing Company]] and Farmers Investment Company
- Board member, [[Anti-Defamation League]]
- Trustee, Art Institute of Chicago, Northwestern University and Cleveland Clinic
- Treasurer of [[Crown Family Philanthropies]]; has chaired its Jewish and Israel Giving Committee
- Board of advisors, UCLA Anderson School of Management
- Education: Claremont McKenna College (undergraduate); UCLA (MBA)
His philanthropic profile follows the family's Jewish and Israel-focused giving, which runs through Crown Family Philanthropies. His own political giving is not covered here: the FEC database could not be reached for this update.
