# Wolves of Vinland
The Wolves of Vinland is a Norse neopagan, white-nationalist group based on the outskirts of Lynchburg, Virginia. The Southern Poverty Law Center classifies it as a "neo-Völkisch hate group" and a white nationalist group; it was added to the SPLC's hate-group list in 2018. The group blends Heathen/Odinist ritual, an ethos of masculine "re-wilding" and tribalism, and a far-right racial worldview.
## Beliefs and Culture
The Wolves promote a tribal, anti-modern masculinity often compared to the cult of Tyler Durden in *Fight Club* — members have cited the story as an influence. They have built a Viking-style longhall on their compound (funded partly via a GoFundMe and donations from white nationalist organizations including Greg Johnson's Counter Currents Publishing), posted images of ritual animal slaughter, and overlapped with the white-power music and black-metal scenes. Writer Jack Donovan was an outspoken supporter of the group.
## Criminality and Recent Reporting
The group's membership has repeatedly intersected with violence. One member, Maurice "Hjalti" Michaely, served two years in prison for the attempted arson of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, a historic Black church in Gainesville, Virginia. In 2022, two men tied to the Wolves and the Asatru Folk Assembly were arrested over a bank-robbery plot, reportedly running a [[Telegram]] channel steeped in militant accelerationist rhetoric. In April 2026, The Guardian reported on combat events ("active club" fight gatherings) hosted at the Wolves' Lynchburg compound.
## The DeAnna Connection
[[Kevin DeAnna]] — the founder of [[Youth for Western Civilization]] and prolific pseudonymous white nationalist writer — was at one point a member of the Wolves of Vinland, a detail that surfaced in BuzzFeed News reporting drawn from the leaked [[Katie McHugh]] emails. His involvement situates DeAnna within the esoteric, neo-pagan wing of the contemporary far right alongside his better-known work in alt-right media.
