# TogetherSF
**Stub — fill out.** The billionaire-funded San Francisco political pressure group chaired and principally financed by [[Michael Moritz]], operating alongside its 501(c)(4) arm TogetherSF Action. It pushed a law-and-order, anti-incumbent, "city in crisis" line through ballot measures, endorsements, and advertising — including the widely mocked "That's Fentalife" campaign.
## The 2024 defeat
TogetherSF and allied committees spent roughly **$15 million** in the November 2024 San Francisco elections: about **$9.5M on Proposition D** (a governance measure, and 46% of all spending across the ballot's fifteen measures) and **$5.4M on Mark Farrell's mayoral campaign**. Moritz personally contributed $3.2M toward both. Other money came from the Fisher family and investor J.P. Conte, and from Neighbors for a Better San Francisco.
Both failed. Proposition D lost 45–55 despite being the best-financed measure on the ballot, and Farrell finished **fourth**, 36 points behind the winner, [[Daniel Lurie]]. On **January 10, 2025**, TogetherSF merged into [[Neighbors for a Better San Francisco]].
## Afterlife: the money moves to Lurie
Moritz did not leave city politics after the defeat. He is the largest donor, at **$2.59M**, to Lurie's 2026 charter-reform committee. That package is a second attempt at the governance overhaul TogetherSF's 2024 Prop D tried, this time led by the candidate who beat TogetherSF's candidate. See [[San Francisco Charter Reform]].
## Why it sits in this KB
A rare well-documented case of **tech money losing a municipal election outright**. The vault tracks plenty of instances where concentrated wealth buys an outcome; this is the control case, and it is useful precisely because the spending advantage was overwhelming and the result was still a rout. The lesson worth extracting is about the limits of money against local political knowledge, not about money's irrelevance.
