# Neighbors for a Better San Francisco
**Neighbors for a Better San Francisco** is the largest-spending moderate pressure group in San Francisco politics. It was founded in **2020** by **Jay Cheng** and **Mary Jung**, both lobbyists for the San Francisco Association of Realtors. It is organized as a [[501(c)(4)]] with an affiliated (c)(3). Its most important funder and chair has been the Republican hedge-fund billionaire [[William Oberndorf]], who gave at least $1M.
## Record
- **2022, [[Chesa Boudin Recall]].** Neighbors provided about **$4.7M**, roughly 64% of all pro-recall money. It was the decisive funder.
- **2024.** Neighbors spent about $2.2M. Oberndorf spent $1.2M backing **Mark Farrell for mayor** and the governance measure Prop D. Both lost, and [[Daniel Lurie]] won.
- **Jan 10, 2025.** [[TogetherSF]], [[Michael Moritz]]'s group, merged into Neighbors after its 2024 losses. The combined group kept the Neighbors name, with Cheng in charge.
- **Oct 2025.** During the [[San Francisco Federal Surge Reversal]] episode, the group ran billboards reading "Dear Mr Trump: No thanks, we're good." *(SF Standard; single-source)*
- **Apr 16, 2026.** Cheng steps down and Rob Aiavao becomes interim leader. Outlets disagree on whether the group rebranded as "Blueprint" (SF Standard) or launched Blueprint as a project (SF Examiner).
- **2026.** It co-sponsored **Prop C** with the Chamber of Commerce and spent more than $300K against the labor-backed Overpaid CEO tax. See [[San Francisco Overpaid CEO Tax]].
## Relationship to Lurie
Neighbors and TogetherSF spent on Farrell in 2024, not Lurie, so the merged group is not Lurie's donor base. Mission Local reports he has kept his distance from Oberndorf and the group even where they share positions, as on the June 2026 tax measures. The donor class's money for Lurie's own agenda has gone mainly to his charter committee instead. See [[San Francisco Charter Reform]].
