# Mormon Women for Ethical Government (MWEG) Nonpartisan civic-engagement organization founded in 2017 by Latter-day Saint women, in part as a response to LDS-community discomfort with the political coarsening of the Trump-era political environment. Membership is open to women across the political spectrum who share the organization's principles of peacemaking, ethical engagement, and constitutional democracy. Headquartered in Utah but operates nationally. ## 2025 Utah redistricting role MWEG is **co-plaintiff with the [[League of Women Voters]] of Utah** in *LWV of Utah v. Utah State Legislature* — the case challenging the Utah Legislature's repeal of voter-approved **Proposition 4** (2018), which had banned partisan gerrymandering and established an independent redistricting commission. The Utah Supreme Court ruled the legislative repeal of Prop 4 unconstitutional on **2025-08-25**, ordered a redraw by **2025-09-24**, enjoined the legislature's revisionist replacement (SB 1012) on **2025-11-10**, and **chose its own remedy map** for the 2026 election. Utah is the only state in the 2025–26 redistricting wave where the courts directly drew the operative congressional map. MWEG's role is notable both for the Utah-specific case and for what it illustrates about LDS-community political diversity in the second Trump term — particularly given the prominence of LDS-aligned senators like [[Mitt Romney]] (retired) and [[Mike Lee]] on opposite sides of the institutional-vs-MAGA divide.
