# Logos School
The original classical Christian school — the prototype that launched the entire modern classical Christian education (CCE) movement in America. Founded in 1981 by [[Douglas Wilson]] and a handful of families from what is now [[Christ Church Moscow]], Logos School applied Dorothy Sayers's 1947 essay "The Lost Tools of Learning" to a Christian K–12 setting: a curriculum built on the classical trivium (grammar, logic, rhetoric), integrated with Reformed Protestant theology, and designed to produce graduates equipped for cultural leadership rather than mere credentialing.
## Founding and the CCE Movement
In 1981, the founding board members — armed, as they later described it, "only with faith and an essay written by Dorothy Sayers" — opened Logos School in Moscow, Idaho with a handful of students. The school's early years were a practical experiment: could the medieval trivium, adapted for modern content but retaining its pedagogical structure, produce better-educated, more culturally literate Christian students than either the public school system or the typical evangelical Christian school?
The answer, at least within the movement, was a decisive yes. In **1991**, Wilson published *Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning*, codifying the Logos School model for replication. Within a few years, over a hundred schools had formed on the same template. In **1994**, Wilson and other CCE leaders founded the [[Association of Classical Christian Schools]] (ACCS) as the membership, accreditation, and curriculum-support body for the growing network. Logos School was the ACCS's anchor institution — the proof of concept that the model worked.
The ACCS network has grown to **300+ member schools** across the United States as of the mid-2020s, making Logos School's founding the single most consequential event in the modern Christian education movement's organizational history.
## The Moscow Cluster Pipeline
Logos School's strategic significance is inseparable from its position in the **Moscow cluster** — the interlocking institutional ecosystem [[Douglas Wilson]] has built in Moscow, Idaho:
**Logos School** (K–12) → **[[New Saint Andrews College]]** (B.A. / M.A.) → **[[CREC]] pastoral ministry** / **ACCS teaching positions** / **[[Canon Press]] editorial work** / **political and cultural leadership**
This is a multigenerational educational pipeline, explicitly designed as such. Logos School feeds students into [[New Saint Andrews College]]; NSA graduates return to staff ACCS schools (including Logos itself), pastor CREC churches, and expand the network. Each node reinforces the others. The pipeline is the rate-limiting infrastructure of the broader CCE expansion: the movement can only grow as fast as it can produce qualified teachers who share its theological and pedagogical commitments, and Logos School → NSA is the primary production line.
## Curriculum and Pedagogy
The Logos model structures K–12 education around the **three stages of the trivium**:
**Grammar stage (K–6):** Memorization-heavy. Students absorb large quantities of factual content — historical dates, Latin vocabulary, mathematical facts, catechism, Bible passages — leveraging young children's natural capacity for rote learning.
**Logic stage (7–9):** Analytical reasoning. Students learn formal and informal logic, begin constructing arguments, and engage critically with the content they memorized in the grammar stage. Socratic discussion replaces pure memorization.
**Rhetoric stage (10–12):** Persuasive expression. Students learn to present arguments effectively — written and oral — culminating in senior thesis projects. The goal is producing graduates who can articulate and defend a Christian worldview in public discourse.
Latin is required. The curriculum is great-books-oriented, heavy on primary sources (Homer, Virgil, Augustine, Aquinas, Shakespeare, the American Founders, Calvin), and theologically integrated throughout — every subject is taught within a Reformed Christian framework.
## Accreditation
Logos School is accredited by the [[Association of Classical Christian Schools]] (ACCS). ACCS accreditation provides institutional legitimacy within the CCE world but operates outside the mainstream regional accreditation system — a deliberate choice that allows ACCS schools to maintain curricula and hiring practices that might conflict with secular accreditation standards.
## KB Significance
Logos School is the **origin node** of the classical Christian education movement and the **K–12 foundation** of the Moscow cluster's multigenerational institutional program. In the [[Christian Nationalism Ecosystem]], Logos occupies a specific strategic role: it is the **template** — the model that has been replicated 300+ times across the country, creating a parallel educational infrastructure that produces graduates with a shared theological worldview, classical rhetorical training, and explicit orientation toward cultural transformation. The compound-interest logic is the same as the [[Federalist Society]]'s: build the pipeline, produce the people, wait a generation, inherit the institutions.
