# James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal
North Carolina think tank focused on higher-education policy, founded by [[Art Pope]] and funded by the [[John William Pope Foundation]]. Originally the John W. Pope Center for Higher Education Policy, it was renamed in 2017 for former NC governor James G. Martin (for whom Pope worked early in his career). The center advocates for curriculum reform, governance changes, and free-market approaches to universities, with particular attention to the UNC system. It rounds out Pope's North Carolina policy operation alongside the [[John Locke Foundation]].
