# GCSB
The Government Communications Security Bureau is New Zealand's signals intelligence (SIGINT) and cybersecurity agency — New Zealand's Five Eyes contribution and the equivalent of the [[NSA]], [[GCHQ]], [[CSE]], and [[ASD]]. The GCSB operates the Waihopai satellite interception station, part of the Five Eyes collection network, and provides cybersecurity services to the New Zealand government through the National Cyber Security Centre.
GCSB's geographic responsibility within the [[Five Eyes Alliance]] covers the South Pacific and Southeast Asia. The agency was thrust into public controversy in 2013 when it was revealed to have illegally surveilled New Zealand resident Kim Dotcom, leading to legislative reforms expanding its mandate while adding oversight mechanisms.
