# Fight for Kentucky **Fight for Kentucky** is the Kentucky super PAC that backed businessman [[Nate Morris]] in the 2026 Republican Senate primary for [[Mitch McConnell]]'s open seat. It registered with the FEC on Feb. 20, 2025. Its money came overwhelmingly from one man: [[Elon Musk]] gave it **$10,000,000 on Jan. 14, 2026**, reported at the time as the largest single donation of the Senate cycle. ## The money (FEC, 2026 cycle through June 30, 2026) | Item | Amount | |---|---| | Total receipts | $15,070,679 | | — from [[Elon Musk]] (Jan. 14, 2026) | $10,000,000 | | Independent expenditures | $13,434,655 | | Total disbursements | $14,774,693 | | Cash on hand, June 30 | $295,986 | Reporting on the Q1 filings named two other large donors: Tom Klingenstein, the board chairman of the [[Claremont Institute]] ($2.5 million), and Texas oil and gas billionaire Timothy Dutton ($1 million, through a PAC). The FEC's $1,000,000 in "other committee" receipts matches the Dutton figure. Musk alone supplied about two-thirds of everything the PAC raised. The ads mixed two messages, casting Morris as a Trump ally and attacking Rep. [[Andy Barr]] as soft on immigration, in line with Morris's call to halt legal immigration. ## How it ended Trump endorsed Barr on **May 1, 2026**. Morris withdrew the same day at Trump's request and endorsed Barr, who won the May 19 primary with 60.5%. Trump later nominated Morris as ambassador to Colombia. See [[KY-Sen-2026]] and [[Nate Morris]]. ## Why it matters here - **The limit of single-donor money.** Musk's $10 million bought about $13.4 million in independent expenditures for a candidate who left the race before anyone voted. It did not outlast a Trump endorsement by even a day. - **Musk's 2026 template.** It was Musk's first big 2026-cycle check to a candidate-specific vehicle, after a year of party-committee giving. The second was $5 million to V-PAC, a pro-[[Vivek Ramaswamy]] super PAC in the Ohio governor's race (May 8, 2026).
