# FRA The Försvarets Radioanstalt (National Defence Radio Establishment) is Sweden's signals intelligence agency — responsible for intercepting and analyzing foreign electronic communications and conducting cyber operations. Sweden participates in the [[Fourteen Eyes]] (SIGINT Seniors Europe) intelligence-sharing arrangement. FRA gained prominence in 2008 when Sweden passed the controversial FRA law authorizing the agency to monitor all wire-bound communications crossing Swedish borders — effectively tapping the fiber-optic cables that carry much of the Baltic region's internet traffic. Sweden's geographic position makes it a valuable signals intelligence partner: Baltic submarine cables connecting Russia and Eastern Europe to Western networks pass through Swedish waters, providing collection opportunities similar to [[GCHQ]]'s Tempora program. ## See Also - [[Fourteen Eyes]] — the intelligence-sharing tier - [[NSA]] — primary signals intelligence partner - [[GCHQ]] — UK equivalent with similar cable-tapping mandate - [[Global Intelligence Hub]] — full agency index
