# Edison Electric Institute
Trade association of U.S. investor-owned electric utilities, founded 1933. One of the most durable industry lobbying operations in Washington, and a significant node in both the climate-denial record and the fight against distributed solar.
**Why it has a page.** EEI already appears in vault prose without a record of its own — in the [[Solar Industry Timeline]] as the organizer of decades of utility opposition to net metering and distributed generation (including the leaked "death spiral" studies and the [[ALEC]] model-legislation campaign against net metering), and in [[Capitol Counsel]]'s client roster. It was also the venue for [[Rawleigh Warner Jr.]]'s 1974 convention speech making the [[Corporate Free Speech]] argument, and it became a major purveyor of climate denial in the 1980s.
