# Community Foundation of Acadiana
The **Community Foundation of Acadiana** is a regional community foundation serving the Acadiana region of south Louisiana, centered on Lafayette. Like most community foundations it holds and administers donor-advised and designated funds on behalf of regional donors and directs grants to local nonprofits.
## Why it is in this KB
It entered the vault through [[Starbase Louisiana]], and specifically through the *form* of its involvement: the State of Louisiana's incentive package for [[SpaceX]] was conditioned on the company making a **$25 million charitable donation to the Community Foundation of Acadiana** to address regional needs arising from the project's growth.
That is a structure worth naming. The payment is charitable in category but contractual in character — it is a term of a government inducement agreement, not a discretionary gift, and the recipient is a private grantmaking intermediary rather than a public body. Money that a jurisdiction might otherwise have collected as tax and appropriated through a budget instead arrives as philanthropy, allocated through a foundation's own process. The vault has no reason to assume bad faith by any party here; the point is that the accountability path for those funds is a different one, and shorter descriptions of the deal tend to record the $25M as generosity rather than as consideration.
⚠️ **Stub.** Governance, asset size, board composition and grantmaking history are not yet researched.
