# CSE
The Communications Security Establishment is Canada's signals intelligence (SIGINT) and cybersecurity agency — the Canadian equivalent of the [[NSA]] and [[GCHQ]], and Canada's primary contribution to the [[Five Eyes Alliance]]. CSE intercepts foreign communications, conducts defensive and offensive cyber operations, and provides cryptographic services to the Canadian government.
Within the Five Eyes division of labor, CSE's geographic responsibility covers northern latitudes and parts of Russia — leveraging Canada's Arctic geography for signals collection. The agency also houses the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security, mirroring the UK model where [[GCHQ]] houses the National Cyber Security Centre.
