# American Statistical Association (ASA) The professional body for statisticians in the United States, founded 1839. Since 2025 it has functioned as the principal outside monitor of the federal statistical system's condition, publishing *The Nation's Data at Risk* (2025) and a midyear update (2026) tracking staffing, funding, leadership vacancies and cancelled or delayed data products across the thirteen principal statistical agencies. Its July 2026 midyear figures — all thirteen agencies down on staff, six by at least a third, two by more than two-thirds — are the count this vault uses, because no federal body publishes an equivalent. ## See also - [[Federal Statistical System Tree]] · [[The Politics of Official Statistics]]
