# Active Club Network
The fastest-growing white nationalist formation in the United States (2021–present). Active Clubs are a decentralized network of localized white supremacist crews organized around physical fitness, martial arts training, and ideological indoctrination — a "fight club" model for white nationalism that has grown from 4 chapters to 50+ across at least 25 states, with international affiliates in Europe, Canada, and Australia.
Rolling Stone described them as who the "Proud Boys wanted to be." Where the Proud Boys wrapped white nationalism in "Western chauvinist" deniability, Active Clubs dispense with the pretense. The model is explicitly white supremacist, explicitly violent, and explicitly designed to evade the organizational vulnerabilities that destroyed previous groups.
## Origins: Rise Above Movement → Active Clubs
The Active Club model was created by **Robert Rundo**, founder of the **Rise Above Movement (RAM)**, a Southern California white supremacist MMA crew active from 2017 to 2018. RAM members attacked counter-protesters at Charlottesville, Huntington Beach, San Bernardino, and Berkeley. Rundo was charged under the federal Anti-Riot Act in 2018, fled to Central America and Eastern Europe, was extradited from Romania in 2023, and was sentenced in December 2024 to time served.
While evading prosecution in Europe, Rundo connected with **Denis Kapustin** (Denis Nikitin), a Russian-German neo-Nazi and founder of the "White Rex" white nationalist MMA clothing brand. In late December 2020, Rundo and Kapustin launched the **Active Club Podcast**, introducing the model: small, autonomous, fitness-oriented cells with no formal hierarchy, no membership lists, and no centralized leadership to prosecute.
## The Model
Active Clubs are designed around the lessons learned from every previous white nationalist organizational failure:
| Feature | Design Intent |
|---------|--------------|
| **No formal membership** | Nothing to infiltrate; no lists to subpoena |
| **No national leadership** | No single prosecution can destroy the network |
| **Fitness-centered** | Recruiting hook (MMA, boxing, hiking); builds physically capable cadre |
| **Local autonomy** | Each club operates independently; no coordination required |
| **Propaganda operations** | Banner drops, sticker campaigns, flash demonstrations |
| **Networking events** | Regional meetups for cross-club bonding; maintain cohesion without hierarchy |
The model borrows directly from [[Leaderless Resistance]] doctrine — the same framework that produced lone-wolf terrorism in the 1990s, now applied to organizational structure rather than individual action.
## Growth
| Year | Estimated Chapters | Geographic Spread |
|------|-------------------|-------------------|
| 2021 | 4 | California, Pacific NW |
| 2022 | ~15 | Expanding to Midwest, East Coast |
| 2023 | ~31 | 25+ states |
| 2024 | 40+ | National + international (Canada, Australia, Europe) |
| 2025 | 50+ | Continued expansion; increasingly sophisticated propaganda |
ADL and SPLC both identify Active Clubs as one of the most significant white supremacist threats in the country. The growth trajectory is steeper than any WN formation since the [[Second KKK]]'s 1920s expansion — though at a far smaller scale.
## Activities
Active Club activities follow a consistent pattern across chapters:
- **Training sessions:** Boxing, MMA, weightlifting, hiking, camping — creating physical capability and male bonding
- **Propaganda operations:** Banner drops from highway overpasses, sticker campaigns on college campuses, flyer distributions in neighborhoods — Active Clubs are responsible for a significant share of all documented white supremacist propaganda incidents nationally
- **Flash demonstrations:** Coordinated appearances at public events, often masked and in matching attire (borrowing from [[Patriot Front]]'s operational model)
- **Cross-group networking:** Active Club members appear alongside [[Blood Tribe]], [[NSC-131]], [[Patriot Front]], and other WN groups at events — functioning as a connective tissue across the movement
## Relationship to Other Groups
Active Clubs represent a **structural evolution** in white nationalist organizing. They occupy a specific niche:
- **More explicitly WN than Proud Boys** — no "Western chauvinist" deniability
- **More decentralized than Patriot Front** — no hierarchical command structure, no matching uniforms requirement
- **Less terroristic than Atomwaffen/NSO** — focused on building cadre rather than accelerating collapse
- **More action-oriented than online communities** — the fitness and fighting training creates real-world capability
The model synthesizes elements from multiple predecessors: RAM's MMA culture, Patriot Front's propaganda operations, the Proud Boys' fraternal bonding, and [[Leaderless Resistance]] doctrine's structural logic.
## Law Enforcement and Designations
- **SPLC:** Designated as white nationalist hate groups
- **ADL:** Designated as white supremacist extremist network
- **FBI:** Multiple Active Club members have been subjects of federal investigations
- **Robert Rundo:** Convicted under Anti-Riot Act (sentenced Dec 2024 to time served); remains involved with the network
## Why This Matters for the KB
Active Clubs represent the **current leading edge** of white nationalist organizational innovation. They have learned from every failure documented in this KB: Charlottesville's public exposure problem, the Proud Boys' and [[Oath Keepers]]' prosecution vulnerability, Atomwaffen's infiltration collapse, and the Second KKK's political overreach. The result is a model optimized for resilience, growth, and evasion of both law enforcement and public accountability.
The international dimension — Rundo's connection to Kapustin and Russian-German neo-Nazi networks — also connects to the KB's [[Global New Right Network]] analysis.
