# World Liberty Financial — News Log
Rolling chronological record of news developments at [[World Liberty Financial]] — the Trump family's DeFi venture, in which the family holds about 38% of the equity through DT Marks DEFI LLC plus 75% of net token-sale revenue, with [[Zach Witkoff]] as CEO. *(Corrected 2026-10-08 from "60% controlled"; see [[World Liberty Financial Investors]].)*
**Lane (from 2026-10-08):** WLF is now a Tier 1 company with a corporate [[World Liberty Financial Watch Log]], swept on Mondays. This log keeps what a **Trump, a Witkoff or a government** did about the venture (ethics fights, congressional probes, the envoy overlap, political statements and analysis). What the **company** did (token sales and unlocks, USD1 supply, charter steps, governance votes, partnerships, lawsuits) goes in the Watch Log. See [[World Liberty Financial Dossier]]. Items that change the structural analysis get promoted to [[World Liberty Financial]]. Split out of [[Trump Corruption News Log]] on 2026-09-29 because the venture now generates enough independent activity — token mechanics, the USD1 stablecoin, foreign counterparties, and a vesting schedule that matures after the term ends — to need its own reverse-chronological feed.
## Standing Watch Items
- **The founder stake and its clock.** On-chain records show a May 2026 vesting contract on the roughly $800M founder stake, first unlock in 2028. Watch for amendments, early unlocks, transfers, or any change to the contract terms.
- **USD1 stablecoin.** Reserve composition and attestations, who custodies, payment integrations, and whether the promised on-platform utility ships.
- **Foreign counterparties.** The UAE stake (see [[World Liberty Financial UAE Sale]]), [[Justin Sun]]'s position and the wallet blacklisting, sovereign-wealth participation, and any new non-US buyer of WLFI or USD1.
- **Unbuilt roadmap items.** Lending, tokenized Treasuries and equities, the "strategic token reserve" — each promised and each unshipped as of September 2026. Track announcements against delivery.
- **Insider realizations.** Token sales, loans against holdings, and cash-outs by principals, against the family's reported $1.2B+ extraction to date.
- **Regulatory and congressional exposure.** OCC charter conditions, SEC and CFTC posture under [[Paul Atkins]] and [[Michael Selig]], Senate letters, and any divest-or-blind-trust language attached to crypto market-structure legislation.
- **[[Cantor Fitzgerald]] and adjacent intermediaries.** Who moves the money and who takes the fee.
## Prior Coverage
WLF items through 2026-09-23 are in [[Trump Corruption News Log]] — including the 2026-09-14 vesting-contract item and the 2026-09-22 Bloomberg investigation into the gap between the roadmap and the revenue. This log carries WLF-specific developments from 2026-09-29 forward; [[Trump Corruption News Log]] keeps the items where WLF is one thread in a wider self-dealing story.

## 2026-10-01 — WLFI Starts Paying Holders in USD1 to Lock Tokens and Keep Voting, Which Is a Price Floor and a Governance Purchase in One Instrument
**Source:** Cryptobriefing, October 1, 2026; CoinMarketCap, October 2026; Phemex, October 2026; TradingView/CoinMarketCal, October 1, 2026.
### 🔴 Major
**[[World Liberty Financial]] launched a staking program on October 1 that pays a $1.25M [[USD1]] reward pool over 180 days to holders who lock their WLFI for at least 180 days *and* cast a governance vote at least once every 90 days. The pool is funded from the WLFI treasury, protocol-owned liquidity fees and World Liberty Markets revenue, with periodic top-ups contemplated. The underlying proposal — the "Governance Engagement Incentive Program" — was posted September 14 and approved in late September.**
Three things are happening in one product, and only one of them is what the announcement says it is.
**First, the stated purpose: voter apathy.** The program ties rewards to voting because almost nobody votes. That is a real problem in token governance generally. But paying for turnout in a system where the founding entity holds the controlling share does not distribute power — it buys the appearance of a participating electorate around a predetermined outcome. A 90-day voting cadence enforced by a reward schedule produces quorum, not consent.
**Second, the supply effect.** A 180-day minimum lock removes staked tokens from circulation for half a year. That is a supply contraction, delivered to a token whose insiders hold an enormous unvested position whose first unlock is in 2028. Anything that tightens float before a vesting cliff is a price-support mechanism, whatever else it is. There is no fixed APR — payout is variable with pool size, total staked and voting compliance — so the issuer keeps discretion over the cost of that support.
**Third, and most notable: what the rewards are denominated in.** The pool pays in **USD1**, the venture's own stablecoin. WLFI is therefore buying lock-ups and votes with a liability it issues itself, partly funded by fees generated by the thing being locked up. No outside capital has to enter for the program to run. Set that beside the standing watch item on unshipped roadmap promises — lending, tokenized Treasuries, the "strategic token reserve," all announced and none delivered as of September 2026 — and the pattern holds: the venture's reliable output is instruments that circulate value internally, not products that bring value in.
Context for the regulatory file: WLFI received **conditional OCC approval for a national trust bank charter on August 14, 2026** — Warren's statement on it, announcing the Ending Presidential Corruption in Banking Act with nine cosponsors, called Trump "the first President in history to approve, operate, and supervise his own bank." The entity now paying governance incentives in its own stablecoin is the entity holding a conditional federal charter to custody the reserves behind it. Watch whether the OCC's conditions address treasury disbursements of this kind; nothing in the reporting reviewed says they do.
