# Strength In Numbers
***Strength In Numbers*** is the polling and elections newsletter [[G. Elliott Morris]] launched on [[Substack]] in May 2025, two months after ABC News closed FiveThirtyEight and laid off its staff. Morris framed it from the start as a gradual successor to 538 — reporting and analyzing polls, publishing its own surveys (a running series with the online pollster Verasight), and, from October 2025, feeding the separate polling-averages site FiftyPlusOne. It also carries a podcast on which Morris is joined by David Nir, publisher of *The Downballot*.
It belongs to the same post-2020 migration of political journalism onto subscription newsletters as [[The Bulwark]] — see [[Substack Timeline]].
## Why it is in the vault
The newsletter is the source of record for several 2026-cycle numbers the vault uses: Trump's approval on prices (−46 net in April 2026, on the [[Affordability]] page), the 25-point coalition-erosion finding behind the [[Dummymander]] thesis, the 31.4/32-point swing in the [[Texas Senate District 9 Special Election]], and the September 2, 2026 argument that Trump "is acting like he *wants* to lose the midterms." When one of those figures appears on a vault page it should be attributed here rather than left as a bare number; where Morris is the only analyst to have computed something, the page says so.
