# Administrative Office of the United States Courts
The administrative agency of the federal judicial branch, created in 1939. It supplies the budget, personnel, statistics, technology and legislative-affairs functions for the federal courts, staffs the committees of the [[Judicial Conference of the United States]], and houses the Rules Committee Support Office that runs the suggestion docket for judicial rulemaking.
Its **Director is by statute the Secretary of the Judicial Conference**, which makes the office the administrative hinge of the branch: the Director is both the chief administrator of the judiciary and the officer who assembles what the Conference considers.
Director as of July 2026: [[Robert J. Conrad Jr.]]
*Stub — expand with the 1939 creation, the relationship to the Federal Judicial Center and the United States Sentencing Commission, the annual budget request, and the legislative-affairs role.*
