# Executive Branch Org Chart
An ASCII-art map of the **U.S. executive branch** — the President at the top, the Executive Office of the President (EOP), the fifteen Senate-confirmed executive departments with their major component agencies, the officials given Cabinet rank without running a department, and the independent agencies and commissions that sit outside the departmental structure. Leadership reflects the **Second Trump administration as of July 1, 2026**.
Companion to the [[Congressional Committees Tree]] (legislative branch). Where the committee tree maps *who chairs what* in Congress, this maps *who runs what* in the executive branch — and how the agencies nest.
> [!note] How to read this chart
> **★** marks a seat that is a member of the Cabinet. **(acting)** marks an official serving in an acting capacity pending a Senate-confirmed successor. Department **component agencies** are shown as institutions (no individual names), since sub-agency heads turn over too often to keep current. Bracketed notes flag reorganizations and mid-term changes in progress. The fifteen departments are listed in order of **presidential succession**, which is also their order of creation.

## Notes
Mid-term leadership changes captured above (Second Trump administration, 2026):
- **Justice** — Attorney General Pam Bondi was removed on April 2, 2026; Deputy AG Todd Blanche became acting Attorney General and was **confirmed to the office 50–49 on 8 August 2026**. He is no longer acting. See [[Todd Blanche Confirmation]].
- **Homeland Security** — Kristi Noem was moved to a new "Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas" role; Markwayne Mullin (formerly R-OK senator) was confirmed 54–45 and sworn in March 24, 2026.
- **Labor** — Lori Chavez-DeRemer resigned April 20, 2026; Deputy Secretary Keith Sonderling became acting Secretary.
- **Director of National Intelligence** — Tulsi Gabbard resigned effective June 30, 2026; FHFA Director Bill Pulte was named acting DNI (announced June 2, 2026), holding both roles.
Structural notes:
- **Defense** — A September 2025 executive order authorized "Department of War" / "Secretary of War" as a secondary title, but only an act of Congress can legally rename the department.
- **USAID** — Historically an independent agency; its surviving functions were absorbed into the State Department in July 2025, with the remnant winding down through 2026. Full abolition requires Congress.
- **Education** — The department is being administratively hollowed out (roughly half its staff cut, 100+ programs transferred to other agencies across 2025–26), but only Congress can eliminate it.
- **DOGE** — The "Department of Government Efficiency" was created by executive order in January 2025 as an EOP entity (a redesignation of the U.S. Digital Service), not a statutory department; Elon Musk departed in May 2025.
This chart maps the executive branch's institutional skeleton — the President, the EOP, the fifteen departments and their principal component agencies, Cabinet-rank officials, and a representative slice of the independent agencies. It does **not** attempt to roster every sub-agency, bureau, office, or the 18-element intelligence community in full; those live in the dedicated hubs below.
