# TSA
The **Transportation Security Administration (TSA)** is the [[Department of Homeland Security]] component that screens passengers and baggage at the nation's airports and sets security standards for other transportation modes. Created in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, it is one of the largest federal workforces and the agency most Americans physically encounter.
For the KB, the TSA is relevant to **federal-workforce politics** — its large, recently-unionized screener workforce makes it a [[Schedule F]] and collective-bargaining flashpoint — and to the expanding use of facial-recognition and biometric screening.
