# Office of Legal Policy
**Status: stub — expand.**
The policy-development component of the [[Department of Justice]], headed by an Assistant Attorney General who is nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate. OLP develops and coordinates the Department's regulatory and legislative positions, and — the function that matters here — **manages the judicial nomination process on the Department's side**: preparing nominees' Senate Judiciary Questionnaires, combing their records for confirmation problems, and running confirmation support once a name is public.
The distinction worth keeping straight is that OLP **processes rather than picks**. Selection of Article III nominees is run out of the [[White House Counsel]]'s office; OLP is the downstream machinery. It was also OLP that historically directed nominees to sign the confidentiality waivers giving the [[American Bar Association]] access to bar records — the practice the Attorney General withdrew in May 2025.
**[[Daniel Burrows]]** was confirmed as Assistant Attorney General 52–46 on February 10, 2026, after the seat had sat vacant since Aaron Reitz resigned in June 2025 to run for Texas attorney general.
