# National Security Council
**Status: stub — expand.**
The principal forum in which the President considers national security and foreign policy matters, established by the **National Security Act of 1947** and housed in the Executive Office of the President. Its statutory members are the President, Vice President, Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense; the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and the Director of National Intelligence are statutory advisers. The **National Security Advisor** heads the NSC staff and requires no Senate confirmation — which is what makes the staff both fast and disposable.
In the second Trump administration the NSC has been the most visible site of the loyalty purges: [[Mike Waltz]] and his principal deputy [[Alex Wong]] both left on May 1, 2025 following [[Hegseth Signalgate]] and [[Laura Loomer]]'s April 2, 2025 Oval Office meeting, in which she named NSC staff for removal.
