# House Veterans' Affairs Committee The House committee with jurisdiction over the [[Department of Veterans Affairs]] — veterans' health care, disability compensation, pensions, education and home-loan benefits, cemeteries, and oversight of the VA's roughly $400B budget and its IT programs. Because failing veterans is a bipartisan third rail, the committee is one of the few in the current House where oversight of the executive still reaches across party lines: its September 2026 subpoena of Oracle's leadership over the [[VA Oracle EHR Modernization Contract]] passed with the Republican chairman's support. ## Current Leadership (119th Congress, 2025–2027) **Chair: [[Mike Bost]]** (R-Illinois), Marine veteran, chairman since 2023. **Ranking Member: [[Mark Takano]]** (D-California), who chaired the committee in the 116th and 117th Congresses. Vice Chair: Amata Radewagen (R-American Samoa). ## Subcommittees - **Health** — [[Mariannette Miller-Meeks]] (R-IA) / Julia Brownley (D-CA) - **Disability Assistance & Memorial Affairs** — Morgan Luttrell (R-TX) / Morgan McGarvey (D-KY) - **Economic Opportunity** — [[Derrick Van Orden]] (R-WI) / [[Chris Pappas]] (D-NH) - **Oversight & Investigations** — [[Jen Kiggans]] (R-VA) / Delia Ramirez (D-IL) - **Technology Modernization** — [[Tom Barrett]] (R-MI) / Nikki Budzinski (D-IL). This subcommittee owns day-to-day EHRM oversight. ## The Oracle subpoenas (2026) After Oracle accepted (Aug 26) and then withdrew from (Aug 27) an invitation to testify at the committee's September 2, 2026 hearing on the $17B contract modification, [[Maxine Dexter]] (D-OR) moved to subpoena chairman [[Larry Ellison]] and co-CEO [[Mike Sicilia]]. The motion passed 19–0 — all 11 Democrats and 8 of 14 Republicans, with six Republicans not voting. Subpoenas were served September 15 with return dates of November 19 (Sicilia) and December 10 (Ellison). Bost: "the biggest boondoggle I've seen." ## See Also - [[Congressional Committees Tree]] · [[Congressional Committees Full Tree - Linked]] - [[Department of Veterans Affairs]] · [[Doug Collins]] - [[VA Oracle EHR Modernization Contract]] · [[Oracle Corporation]]
