# Musk UK Campaign From the summer of 2024 [[Elon Musk]] has run a sustained campaign in British politics, almost entirely on [[X (Twitter)]], the platform he owns. It is the companion to his [[Musk AfD Campaign]] in Germany, with one structural difference. In Germany he picked a party and stayed with it. In Britain he has backed three parties in eighteen months, and the one constant has been a person: [[Tommy Robinson]]. The pattern repeats. Musk courts a party on the British right. The party refuses to take Robinson, or holds some other line Musk regards as weakness. Musk denounces its leader and moves to a party further right. [[Reform UK]] (2024) gave way to Advance UK (August 2025), which gave way to Restore Britain (February 2026). ## Timeline | Date | Event | |---|---| | Nov 2023 | X reinstates Robinson's account, banned since 2018, along with Katie Hopkins. | | Aug 2024 | During the riots after the Southport stabbings, Musk posts that "civil war is inevitable" in Britain and keeps it up against [[Keir Starmer]]. Downing Street says there is "no justification" for the comment. | | late 2024 | Musk is reported to be weighing a donation of up to $100M to Reform UK (see [[Nigel Farage]]). | | Jan 2–3, 2025 | Musk pins "Free Tommy Robinson!" while Robinson is serving 18 months for contempt of court. In the same burst he targets Starmer over the grooming-gang prosecutions ("Who was the head of the CPS when rape gangs were allowed to exploit young girls without facing justice? Keir Starmer, 2008-2013") and says safeguarding minister Jess Phillips "deserved to be in prison." | | Jan 5, 2025 | Farage restates that Robinson will not be allowed into Reform: "I do not allow former BNP activists into this party." Musk replies: **"The Reform Party needs a new leader. Farage doesn't have what it takes."** Farage says he is prepared to go without the donation. | | May 27, 2025 | Robinson released early. He thanks Musk: without X "everyone would just think I lied." | | Aug 26, 2025 | Musk endorses **Advance UK**, the Reform splinter founded in June by former Reform deputy leader Ben Habib, which Robinson says he will join. Farage is "weak sauce who will do nothing." | | Sept 13, 2025 | **[[Unite the Kingdom Rally]].** Musk speaks to 110,000–150,000 people in central London by video link: **"Whether you choose violence or not, violence is coming to you. You either fight back or you die."** He also accuses the government of using immigration to "import voters" and calls for Parliament to be dissolved. Starmer's spokesman calls it "dangerous and inflammatory language which threatens violence." | | Oct–Nov 2025 | Robinson says Musk "picked up the legal bill" for his Terrorism Act trial. Acquitted on November 4: "Thank you Elon Musk." | | Feb 14–15, 2026 | Musk moves to Rupert Lowe's **Restore Britain**: "Join Rupert Lowe in Restore Britain, because he is the only one who will actually do it!" Lowe had been elected for Reform in 2024 and suspended from it in March 2025. | | May 16, 2026 | Second Unite the Kingdom march, about 60,000 people. Robinson: "None of this would have happened if it wasn't for one man. Thank you Elon, on behalf of Great Britain." | | Jun 8–10, 2026 | A man is badly injured in a knife attack in Belfast. The suspect is a Sudanese man granted a UK visa after claiming asylum, and police find "no indication it was terror-related." Musk shares protest locations with his followers: "Only by protesting REPEATEDLY and LOUDLY will there be any change!" He also posts "Only Restore Britain can save Britain." Rioting follows, with homes and vehicles burned. Northern Ireland's First Minister Michelle O'Neill calls them "keyboard warriors" stoking "hate and tension." Belfast MP Claire Hanna names both Musk and Robinson. | | Jun 9, 2026 | Robinson appears in Moscow with Musk's father, [[Errol Musk]]. | | Jul 10, 2026 | Advance UK formally dissolves. | ## The three moves **1. Attacking the firewall from the donor side.** Reform's refusal to admit Robinson is Britain's version of the German *Brandmauer*. The difference is that Musk attacked it from inside a party he was courting as a funder. The January 2025 break shows what the money was conditional on. Farage chose the rule over the donation, and Musk went looking for a party without the rule. **2. The grooming-gang frame.** Musk's January 2025 posts tied three things together: Robinson's imprisonment, the grooming-gang prosecutions, and Starmer's tenure as Director of Public Prosecutions. The result recast a contempt-of-court sentence as political imprisonment for speaking about the gangs, and made the sitting prime minister its villain. It is the same narrative operation as "too much focus on past guilt" in Germany. The obstacle to the far right is redefined as the real scandal. **3. From prediction to instruction.** Read in order, the British posts escalate. In August 2024 he predicts ("civil war is inevitable"). In September 2025 he warns a crowd ("fight back or you die"). In June 2026 he directs one, sharing protest locations during live disorder. The Belfast posts went out while rioting was under way. ## Why it matters - **A person, not a party.** Musk's German campaign was a bet on an institution, and it paid off institutionally: the AfD came second in 2025 and won Saxony-Anhalt in 2026. His British campaign has been a bet on a movement figure. It has drawn very large crowds but has burned through two parties. Reform, the party Musk abandoned, is the one that went on to win big in the May 2026 local elections. See [[British History Hub]]. - **The farther-right flank as leverage.** Each move to a more hardline vehicle (Advance UK, then Restore Britain) puts pressure on Farage from his right. It is the same squeeze Reform itself applied to the Conservatives. - **Same platform, same playbook.** As in Germany, the campaign ran on infrastructure Musk owns. No advertising was bought and no donation to a British party is on record. The only money that surfaced went to Robinson personally, for his legal defence, and only Robinson has said so. ## See Also - [[Tommy Robinson]] · [[Unite the Kingdom Rally]] · [[English Defence League]] - [[Elon Musk]] · [[Errol Musk]] · [[X (Twitter)]] · [[Tesla]] - [[Nigel Farage]] · [[Reform UK]] · [[Keir Starmer]] · [[Andy Burnham]] · [[Kemi Badenoch]] · [[British History Hub]] - [[Musk AfD Campaign]] · [[International Far-Right Networks]] · [[Global New Right Network]] - [[Islamophobia]] · [[Remigration]] · [[Great Replacement Theory]]
