# Musk 158M to Senate Leadership Fund Q3 2026
**[[Elon Musk]]** gave **$158,000,000** to the **[[Senate Leadership Fund]]**'s super PAC in September
2026, in two contributions a fortnight apart. The money became public on **October 15, 2026**, when the
committee filed its third-quarter report — the first document of the cycle to name the source of the
Senate Republican leadership's largest outside-spending operation.
It is the largest single-donor sum on this site for the 2026 cycle, and it arrived at a committee that had
already been spending it for a month before anyone could see where it came from.

## What the quarter looked like
The committee's own summary page, for July 1 to September 30, 2026:
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Cash on hand at open | $238,609,688.14 |
| **Total receipts** | **$272,944,766.79** |
| Total disbursements | $356,184,728.09 |
| Cash on hand at close | $155,369,726.84 |
| Contributions to other committees | $180,200,000.00 |
| Independent expenditures | $166,809,213.42 |
The arithmetic closes: $238,609,688.14 + $272,944,766.79 − $356,184,728.09 = $155,369,726.84.
Against **$272,944,766.79** of receipts, Musk's **$158,000,000** is **57.9% of the quarter**. The next
largest sources in the same report are **$62,167,000.00** from **[[One Nation]]**, the 501(c)(4) that
discloses no donors of its own, and a set of seven-figure cheques an order of magnitude smaller:
**$5,000,000** from Joe Ricketts, **$5,000,000** from the National Association of Realtors Congressional
Fund, **$3,000,000** each from Stephen Wynn, **[[Stephen Schwarzman]]** and Altria Client Services,
**$2,500,000** from Leon Rachel Corp, **$2,000,000** each from Marlene Ricketts and Condorcet Initiative
Corp., and **$1,500,000** from ConocoPhillips ANS Marketing.
## Where it went
$158,000,000 arrived at SLF PAC in September. **$158,000,000 left SLF PAC for [[Texas PAC]] in
September** — $75,000,000 on September 10 and $83,000,000 on September 24, each the day after the
matching contribution landed. Texas PAC's own quarterly report shows those two transfers as its **only**
itemised receipts, ever. See [[Senate Leadership Fund 158M to Texas PAC]].
> [!note] What the documents do and do not establish
> The two documents establish the amounts, the dates and the one-day sequence. They do not establish a
> legal earmark, and nothing on either filing says the contributions were given for Texas. SLF PAC is a
> general-purpose committee that raised $272.9 million in the quarter and spent $166.8 million on
> independent expenditures of its own, so the money in its account was not segregated. What can be said
> is that the sums match to the dollar and the transfers follow the contributions by one day in both
> cases.
## Why it matters
Senate Republican leadership's Texas intervention was read, when it happened, as an institutional
decision — the party committee arriving late and heavily for **[[Ken Paxton]]** in a race it had not
planned to contest. The receipts say the institution was the conduit. One person supplied the money, and
the structure that carried it is the one built to make that unnecessary to disclose until after the
spending was done.
It also sits beside Musk's own vehicle. **[[America PAC]]**, which he founded, itemised a further
**$82,800,000** of his cash contributions in the same quarter. The two together put his disclosed
federal giving for the quarter above **$240 million**, across a committee he controls and a committee the
Senate Republican leadership controls.
