# Palantir $244M Pentagon No-Bid Directive
> [!info] The analysis lives on the event page
> This is the **Deals-layer record** of the August 4, 2026 "Funding Palantir" memorandum. The full treatment — the missing 10 U.S.C. § 3204 justification, the POGO analysis, the DIA ASTRA protest irony, the no-bid baseline statistics, and the caveats — is at **[[Palantir DoD Sole-Source Funding Memo]]**. Read that page first. This file exists so the transaction appears in Deals views alongside the rest of Palantir's contract record; it deliberately does not restate the argument.
## The record
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Date signed | 2026-08-04 |
| Signer | [[Steve Feinberg]], Deputy Secretary of Defense |
| Memo subject line | "Funding Palantir" |
| Ceiling | up to $243.9M through 2027-03-31 |
| Follow-on | components directed to identify further options 2027-04-01 → 2028-12-28 |
| Vehicle | BOND program (per DefenseScoop) |
| Competition | none; no FAR sole-source justification cited |
| Status | **directive only — no obligated award identified** |
## Why it is filed as a Deal at all
The Deals layer records transactions. This is not yet a transaction — which is precisely why it belongs here with a flag rather than being left out. A Deals folder that only contains consummated awards will systematically under-record the mechanism that matters most in this administration: the instruction that precedes the award and never surfaces as a solicitation.
> [!warning] Do not report the ceiling as money spent
> "$243.9M" is a **ceiling in a memo**, not an obligation. No award citing this direction had appeared on USASpending or SAM.gov as of the August 24, 2026 sweep. No row has been added to [[Palantir Contracts]] for that reason. If this file is ever used as a source for a dollar figure, carry this caveat with it.
## Where it sits against the other 2026 no-bid cases
| Case | Mechanism | Competition | Visibility |
|---|---|---|---|
| This directive | Internal memo naming the vendor | None | Internal until leaked |
| [[White House Ballroom No-Bid Contract]] | Award steered through an office outside FAR rules | None | Concealed from spending records |
| [[DHS $1.5B Counter-UAS IDIQ Award]] | Competed IDIQ, twelve winners, two tracks | Full | Public, and protested |
Directed, evaded, competed — three 2026 awards under substantially the same statutory regime. What varies is whether anyone chose to apply it.
