# NVIDIA-Safe Superintelligence Investment
On July 27, 2026, [[NVIDIA]] invested $5B in [[Safe Superintelligence]] and granted the lab access to its **Vera Rubin** platform — an increase in [[Ilya Sutskever]]'s available compute of roughly one order of magnitude. The arrangement moves SSI off the [[Google]] Cloud TPU supply it had used since April 2025 and onto NVIDIA GPUs.
Sutskever's stated rationale: "We have research that is worthy of scaling up, and having access to a big NVIDIA computer will let us do so. We are confident that our big bet on the Vera Rubin platform will take us to the next level."
## Significance
The largest single check ever written into a company with no product, no revenue, and no published research. SSI had raised roughly $3B across two disclosed equity rounds at a ~$32B valuation; NVIDIA's $5B is larger than everything before it combined.
It is also the moment the sector's most conspicuously non-commercial lab joined the circular-financing structure. NVIDIA has now invested in [[OpenAI]] (up to $100B, see [[OpenAI-NVIDIA Strategic Partnership]]), in datacenter operators (see [[NVIDIA-Lancium 3B Investment]]), and now in the safety-first lab that was founded to stand outside the commercial race — with the proceeds of each investment flowing back to NVIDIA as chip purchases. Michael Burry's "Cisco of the bubble" critique of [[NVIDIA]] rests on exactly this pattern; SSI's inclusion in it removes the last frontier lab that could be cited as a counterexample.
For [[Safe Superintelligence]] the trade is compute for entanglement: the lab that declined a [[Meta]] acquisition to protect its independence is now capitalized by the chipmaker with the largest commercial stake in an unregulated compute market.
