# ICE-BI2 Technologies Iris-Scanning Contract
On May 22, 2026, [[ICE]] awarded [[BI2 Technologies]] a $25.1M sole-source (no-bid) contract for field iris-recognition capability. The award covers more than 1,500 mobile iris-scanning devices, access to BI2's biometric mobile application, and continuing access to BI2's iris database of over 5 million booking records. The contract runs June 1, 2026 through May 31, 2027 and was first reported in the press around May 27, 2026.
The award more than quintuples the prior agreement between the two parties — a $4.6M contract signed September 24, 2025 that fielded roughly 200 devices — expanding ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations' field biometric-identification arsenal by 5x in dollar terms and roughly 7x in device count within eight months.
## Significance
The dollar value is modest, but the deal is editorially significant as a no-bid expansion of [[ICE]]'s field biometric-surveillance capability tied directly to immigration enforcement. It lets ICE agents capture iris images in the field and match them in real time against a multi-state central repository, extending biometric identification beyond fixed booking facilities into mobile enforcement operations. The sole-source justification and the rapid 5x scale-up in under a year fit the broader pattern of accelerated surveillance-technology procurement across DHS enforcement components.
