# GEO Group Adelanto ICE Complex Sale to DHS On **October 5, 2026**, [[GEO Group]] announced it had sold its immigration detention complex in Adelanto, California to the United States, acting through the [[Department of Homeland Security]], for **$950 million**. GEO keeps working inside the buildings it just sold. ## The terms From GEO's own announcement, filed with the SEC: | | | |---|---| | **Buyer** | The United States, through the Department of Homeland Security | | **Facilities** | Adelanto West ICE Processing Center (1,280 beds), Adelanto East (660 beds), Desert View Annex (704 beds) | | **Total beds** | 2,644 | | **Price** | $950M gross; GEO expects about **$705M** net after taxes and fees | | **After the sale** | GEO keeps providing support services for [[ICE]] at all three buildings under its existing contract. The current term ends Dec 19, 2029, and a five-year option can extend it to **Dec 19, 2034** | | **Same day** | GEO's board raised its share-buyback authorization by $750M, to $1.25B | ## Why it matters **The government bought the buildings and kept the operator.** Owning the jails means taxpayers now carry the real estate. GEO collects the sale price and still gets paid to provide services inside. The $750 million buyback increase announced the same day sends a large part of the money straight back to GEO's shareholders. **The seller is a top donor to the president's super PAC.** A GEO subsidiary, GEO Reentry Services LLC, has given more than $4.4 million to [[MAGA Inc]] since the start of 2025, including $1 million reported on a filing received October 20, 2026. In July 2026 two GEO donations landed within three days of two new ICE contracts (see the [[GEO Group]] page). Close timing is not proof of a trade, and this page does not claim one. It is the same company on both sides of the public ledger: paid by the agency, and paying the president's political operation. **It is part of a wider buying spree.** Earlier in 2026, DHS dropped a plan to convert empty warehouses into detention sites and started buying properties outright to add beds quickly. DHS also pays GEO and [[CoreCivic]] a combined $240 million a year to reopen closed facilities (Bisnow, October 6, 2026). ## Connects to - [[GEO Group]] — the seller, and its 2026 contract-and-donation record - [[MAGA Inc]] — recipient of GEO's political money - [[ICE]] · [[Department of Homeland Security]] — the buyer and the customer - [[CoreCivic]] — the other half of the private-detention duopoly - [[Carceral and Border Security Sector]] - [[Quid Pro Quo]] ## See Also - [[Deals Hub]]
