# South Africa **South Africa** appears in the vault both as the apartheid state and as the country several figures in the American tech right emigrated from — a coincidence the vault records without asserting a causal claim about it. It is also a recurring object of American right-wing narrative about land and minority persecution. > [!note] Canonical country record > This page owns the bare name **South Africa** and is the default target for `[[South Africa]]`. > Its history is at [[South African History Hub]]. > A page covering its influence operations directed at the United States, if one is built, belongs in /Foreign Influence/ under an adjectival title and does **not** claim this name. ## Why it appears in this vault - [[Apartheid]] — the system and its dismantling - [[Cyril Ramaphosa]] — the current president - [[Elon Musk]] — among the emigrants - [[G20]] — the multilateral seat ## See Also - [[South African History Hub]] - [[World History Hub]]
