# Starbase Starbase is [[SpaceX]]'s launch and manufacturing site at Boca Chica on the Texas Gulf Coast, developed by [[Elon Musk]] as the home of the Starship program. In 2025 the surrounding area was incorporated as a municipality — effectively a company town controlled by SpaceX and its employees — making Starbase a striking emblem of privatized, corporate-governed territory. Starbase anchors the "New Texas Money" story in the [[Texas History Hub]]: Musk's relocation of his companies and personal base to Texas is the endpoint of the [[California Tech Exodus Ecosystem]] and a new concentration of political-industrial power layered atop the state's older oil fortunes. In August 2026 SpaceX announced a second, far larger site — [[Starbase Louisiana]], on ~125,000 acres in Vermilion Parish. The comparison is instructive: Boca Chica produced years of nuisance, trespass and noise litigation from neighbors, and roughly 60 South Texas households were still pursuing those claims when Louisiana enacted a statute barring exactly that category of suit against aerospace operators — months before SpaceX's Louisiana plans were publicly confirmed. ## See Also - [[SpaceX]] - [[Elon Musk]] - [[Starbase Louisiana]] - [[Fortress Futurism]] — the company town as garrisoned enclave - [[California Tech Exodus Ecosystem]] - [[Texas History Hub]]
