# Palantir Foundry
[[Palantir]]'s commercial and government data integration platform — the product that took the company beyond intelligence agencies and into the Fortune 500. Foundry creates a unified "ontology" — a semantic model of every entity, relationship, and rule in an organization — that transforms messy, siloed data into structured, actionable intelligence.
## What It Does
Foundry integrates data from any source (databases, APIs, spreadsheets, IoT sensors, legacy systems), cleans it, models it into an interconnected ontology, and enables analysis, automation, and decision-making on top of that model. It's not a database — it's a platform that makes an organization's entire data landscape queryable and actionable.
Key capabilities include data pipeline construction, automated data quality monitoring, application building (no-code/low-code), workflow automation, and cross-organizational collaboration on shared data models.
## Commercial Customers
By Q4 2025, Palantir had 590+ commercial customers (up from ~295 in Q4 2023). Major customers include:
- **Airbus** — Manufacturing and supply chain optimization for aircraft production.
- **Ferrari (Scuderia Ferrari)** — F1 telemetry, spare parts, simulation, testing, and pilot feedback data integration.
- **BP** — Energy operations and ERP suite.
- **Merck** — Pharmaceutical data integration.
- **JP Morgan Chase** — Financial analytics.
- **Rio Tinto** — Mining operations.
- **[[Credit Suisse]]** — Financial services.
- **Sanofi** — Pharmaceutical operations.
U.S. Commercial Total Contract Value hit $1.31B in 2025 (+342% YoY). Revenue surged 71% YoY to $255M in Q1 2025.
## Government Deployments
### U.S. Federal Agencies
- **Department of Homeland Security** — Cross-agency data integration.
- **Health and Human Services** — Federal health data.
- **Treasury Department** — Fraud detection.
- **Multiple agencies via DOGE** — The [[DOGE-Palantir Nexus]] uses Foundry to integrate data across federal agencies for government restructuring. Trump's executive order mandating federal data sharing positioned Palantir as the primary software provider.
### NHS England — Federated Data Platform
- **Contract value:** £330M (awarded 2023).
- **Purpose:** Managing patient data across England's 215 hospital trusts.
- **Adoption:** Only 72 of 215 trusts using it as of May 2025 — less than a third.
- **Status:** Under intense political and medical pressure. Review date: February 2027.
### UK Ministry of Defence
- Part of the £240M MoD deal (December 2025) alongside [[Palantir Gotham]].
## Accenture Partnership
In June 2025, Palantir named Accenture Federal Services as a preferred implementation partner. Accenture trained and certified 1,000 Data & AI professionals on Foundry and [[Palantir AIP]], dramatically expanding deployment capacity.
## Controversies
### NHS Patient Data Privacy
The most politically charged Foundry controversy. Amnesty International, the British Medical Association (BMA), and multiple health worker groups have demanded NHS England cancel the contract. Key concerns:
1. **Immigration enforcement crossover** — The BMA explicitly cited Palantir's ICE work (see [[Palantir ICE Systems]]), noting that ICE used Palantir's ImmigrationOS to link formerly separate datasets *including medical records*. The fear: a single Palantir-run platform holding NHS data could enable Home Office or police access to patient records.
2. **Lobbying to weaken data protections** — FOI documents from a June 2025 meeting between Health Secretary Wes Streeting and Palantir revealed a DHSC briefing note stating "Palantir may raise issues with IG [information governance] in the NHS as presenting obstacles" and "we have a long-standing commitment to revisit the regulations relating to confidential patient information, and this is likely to present opportunities."
3. **Patient trust erosion** — BMA chief: "Given Palantir's track record, including controversies in the US involving immigration enforcement and the risks to patient trust, data security, and NHS independence, we believe there must be a complete break from Palantir technologies in the NHS."
4. **UK government response** — Science minister Lord Vallance told Parliament the government intends to prioritize domestic companies for future technology contracts.
### Cross-Agency Government Data Sharing
Foundry's deployment across multiple U.S. federal agencies — especially via the [[DOGE-Palantir Nexus]] — raises concerns about creating a surveillance infrastructure that connects previously siloed government databases. The EFF and ACLU have flagged this as a constitutional concern.
### NYC Hospitals (2026)
New York City hospitals dropped Palantir in early 2026, amid the same concerns about immigration enforcement and data privacy that plagued the NHS deployment.
## Relationship to Other Products
Foundry is the commercial/government sibling to [[Palantir Gotham]] (intelligence/military). [[Palantir AIP]] adds AI/LLM capabilities on top of Foundry. [[Palantir Apollo]] handles deployment. Foundry's ontology layer is what makes [[Palantir AIP]] possible — the ontology "grounds" AI outputs in structured operational data.
