# Kardashev Scale
A futurist framework, proposed by Soviet astronomer Nikolai Kardashev in 1964, that ranks a civilization's level of advancement by how much energy it can harness: Type I (planetary energy), Type II (stellar energy), and Type III (galactic energy).
In right-wing tech ideology the scale functions less as astrophysics than as a moral imperative. [[Guillaume Verdon]] and [[Effective Accelerationism]] invoke the [[Kardashev Gradient]] — "climbing" it by maximizing civilizational energy use — as the telos that justifies maximum-speed technological development and frames any deceleration as a betrayal of cosmic destiny. The framing connects e/acc to the deep-time optimism of [[Russian Cosmism]] and [[Transhumanism]].
