# Ballot Access
**Status: stub — expand.**
The body of state law and federal constitutional doctrine governing whose name is printed on a ballot. Ballot access is administered almost entirely by the states under the [[Elections Clause]], produces no uniform national rule, and is reviewed federally under the Anderson-Burdick balancing framework drawn from [[Anderson v. Celebrezze]] and [[Burdick v. Takushi]].
The mechanics — filing windows, fees, signature thresholds, verification, challenge proceedings and judicial review — are mapped stage by stage at [[How a Candidate Gets on the Ballot]].
The standing source stream for developments in this area is [[Richard Winger]], who has published the field's newsletter of record since 1985.
