# Anduril Roadrunner
[[Anduril]]'s reusable counter-drone interceptor — a high-explosive VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) system designed to neutralize incoming drone threats. Roadrunner's key innovation: if it doesn't need to detonate to destroy its target, it can land safely and be reused, dramatically reducing the cost-per-engagement compared to traditional air defense missiles.
## What It Does
Roadrunner is designed for rapid-response defeat of Group 1-3 UAS threats (small to medium drones). It launches vertically, maneuvers to intercept incoming drones at speed, and either destroys the target with its explosive warhead or — if the engagement is cancelled — returns and lands for reuse. The system is cued and controlled via [[Anduril Lattice]], integrating with sensor networks for automated threat detection and targeting.
The design emphasizes speed, maneuverability, and cost-efficiency. Traditional air defense (like Patriot missiles at $3M+ per shot) is economically unsustainable against swarms of cheap drones. Roadrunner aims to solve the "cost imposition" problem — making defense cheaper than attack.
## Who Uses It
### U.S. Department of Defense
The Pentagon awarded a $250M contract (October 2024) for 500 Roadrunner all-up rounds plus [[Anduril Pulsar]] electronic warfare systems. Deliveries began Q4 2024, continuing through end of 2025. Deployed to "priority regions where U.S. forces face significant threats" from drones — likely the Middle East and Indo-Pacific.
### Multiple Military Branches
Part of the broader $350M+ in counter-UAS contracts Anduril has secured since the Roadrunner/Pulsar public launch. Included in the $642M Marine Corps counter-drone deal (10-year) and the $20B Army enterprise agreement.
### Production
Being manufactured at [[Arsenal-1]] alongside [[Anduril Fury]] and [[Anduril Barracuda]].
